Supporting Alabama Independent Higher Education

The association appreciates all gifts regardless of the amount. Every dollar goes to students and every dollar makes a difference in their lives. We work with donors to tailor a program that meets their philanthropic and business interests while at the same time providing scholarship support for our students.

AAICU now accepts online donations by selecting the "Make A Gift" icon above.

AAICU is a tax-exempt, nonprofit Alabama corporation. All contributions are tax- deductible in accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code

Other examples of the many ways to contribute are illustrated in the following:

Unrestricted Scholarship Gifts defray the cost of education for all students attending our member schools regardless of the student’s race, color, creed, national origin, or financial standing. The student must be an undergraduate student and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Need Based Scholarships are given to undergraduate students showing academic potential with an annual family income of $35,000 or less. More than 90% of our students receive some form of financial aid.

Merit Based Scholarships are awarded to students showing exceptional academic proficiency. Scholarship recipients are selected by a school representative and must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.

Named Scholarship Program enables donors to create a scholarship in their name at each of our 14 member colleges. The minimum gift required is $14,000 to establish a $1000 scholarship at each school with accompanying statewide publicity. Scholarships may be designated for specific purposes by the donor; however all recipients must be Alabama residents demonstrating financial need and academic promise.

Minority Based Scholarships are given to minority undergraduate students displaying academic and leadership potential. These scholarships are intended to assist any minority scholar nominated by his/her school. Our association membership includes five Historically Black Colleges and Universities and a combined minority enrollment of over 11,284 students.

Major Specific Scholarships  are given to undergraduate students pursuing specific academic majors such as Education, Business, Nursing, Health Care, Math, Science, etc. Recipients must be Alabama residents majoring in a discipline designated by the donor.

Internship programs are organized through business, corporate and association partners to fulfill local community and employer’s needs. The programs are structured individually to satisfy both the student and donor’s requirements and include both scholarship aid and a work related internship with the sponsoring business.
